Update on Columbia’s Resolution Agreement with the Federal Government
January 20, 2026
Since signing the agreement in July 2025, Columbia University has begun work to comply with its obligations under our federal resolution agreement. That work proceeds as planned, as outlined in the resolution agreement.
In October 2025, the University appointed Jim Glover as Resolution Administrator and Vice Provost, responsible for coordinating and overseeing Columbia's compliance with the resolution agreement, including preparation of regular reports to the resolution monitor and timely submission of the University’s required public reporting under the agreement. His work has begun, and Jim is working across teams in the University’s central administration and Columbia’s schools to compile the information required to enable implementation of the resolution agreement.
Additionally, consistent with resolution agreement, Columbia and the federal government have mutually agreed to appoint a new independent monitor, effective January 2026. The responsibilities are being undertaken by Charles J. Cooper, chairman and founding partner of Cooper & Kirk, a Washington, DC, based law firm. The role of the monitor remains the same; the change was made for administrative and logistical reasons. The University thanks Bart M. Schwartz of Guidepost Solutions for his service over the past months.
Additional updates will be posted as the University continues its work to comply with its federal resolution agreement.
